Proofreading and editing

What are the differences between proofreading and editing?

Bildschirm Tastatur Yasuko kProofreading is the process of reviewing a text for its linguistic correctness. The focus is on spelling, grammar and punctuation. In addition, we check semantics (word, sentence and text semantics), i.e. we find out if your word choice seems correct for what you want to say and check for correct end-of-line hyphenation.

Content editing goes one step further. In addition to checking the linguistic accuracy (proofreading), we check for word repetitions, incomprehensible and misunderstood phrases, and whether the style is appropriate for the text genre and target audience. We also check your text for logic and sensible structure. If desired, we can also offer you a verification of factual correctness.

After editing, you will receive e.g. a Word document from us where all changes are visible so that you can either accept or reject them. Alternatively, suggestions for corrections can be made in PDF documents using comments, especially if the documents are in DTP formats such as InDesign, Framemaker, Illustrator, QuarkXpress or Visio.
